A Far Rockaway woman was killed crossing a Bridgeport (Connecticut) street in a hit and run accident.
A Far Rockaway resident was killed and another person injured after a driver lost control of a car early Wednesday morning on Stratford Avenue, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, local police said.
Vivian Smith, 22, of Far Rockaway, died of brain trauma and internal injuries suffered in the crash, according to a statement from Bridgeport Police Captain Brian Fitzgerald.
Officials said that Smith was walking with a 21-year-old male friend, who has not been identified, just before 1 a.m. when both were struck by a 2004 Volkswagen Passat.
Both were taken to Bridgeport Hospital, where Smith was pronounced dead at 6:14 a.m., according to Fitzgerald. The driver of the Passat fled the scene on foot, police said.

On September 29, at approximately 6:08 a.m., police patrol units from the 100 Precinct responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian struck in the vicinity of Rockaway Freeway and Beach 59 Street. Upon arrival, the officers found a 36-year-old woman lying on the roadway with trauma to her body.
EMS responded and transported the woman to Jamaica Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries the following day.
Citywide police sources say that their investigation found that a 2014 Toyota Camry, being operated by a 29-year-old unidentified male, was traveling westbound on Rockaway Freeway passing Beach 59 Street when he struck the woman, who had walked onto the roadway.
The investigation is ongoing by the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad. To date, no criminality has been identified in the accident.
The identity of the deceased is pending proper family notification, sources said.
